Resilience: Remembering Humanity In Times Of Stress UK

Resilience is about remembering that who you are is not what you do; life is not a summation of all the things you’ve done, it is how you’ve lived. Remember - you are fallible and imperfect human being who is worth caring for.

Key Tips And Tools From Gaylene

In times of stress, keep hold of your humanity. Things will go wrong, you will make mistakes, try to keep a sense of equanimity in these times. Remember, resilience is not necessarily about strength.

Know that caring for yourself in stressful moments will help you heal and bounce back.

Self compassion is the heart of resilience. If you do not have it for yourself, you cannot do it for anyone else. Compassion is what you show yourself and people around you when things don’t go right. So, take time to heal, look after yourself and be gentle with yourself.

In this lesson, Gaylene will talk about her experiences managing stress, making difficult decisions and putting out fires. What is most interesting is Gaylene’s definition of resilience, “remembering you are human in times of stress.” She explains that there is a need to keep perspective, hold on to your humanity, and know, more often than not, we are not in life and death situations. So, resilience, according to Gaylene, is not about strength, but more about equanimity (calmness and composure, especially in difficult situations).
