Between work, the demands of family life, staying healthy and all the other pressures that we face as working women, self care can often feel like the very last item on our to-do list. However, looking after your skin is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves, it is afterall the largest organ of our bodies. Our skin is also our barrier against the world, so when it’s healthy and glowing, it can help us feel like we can face anything.
Not to mention just how transformative a simple skincare routine can be for our mental health, as it encourages us to carve out some ‘me time.’ Alexandra Francis-Gower, AllBright's very own commercial partnership manager who works across all our beauty brands and our resident skincare expert in the office, stresses just how important this is. She says "it can be hard working a nine to five and finding the space in our schedules to carry out a simple but effective skincare routine, but I see carving out time for this as an investment in myself. I like to think about the ingredients I put on my body just as much I take care of what I put in my body so I can feel my best every day."
Brought to you in partnership with Beauty Pie, the members’ club for luxury beauty, here are some of our top tips on how we can get into a good skincare routine, even when it feels overwhelming.
Don’t overcomplicate it
In 2022 the beauty industry generated approximately $430 billion in revenue, and with this comes a huge array of articles, videos and advice from influencers all recommending their perfect ten step skincare routine. The best way to ensure you don’t feel overwhelmed when it comes to beauty is to just keep things simple. Adopting a few habits that feel manageable is the first step. Can you prioritize applying SPF in the morning after you brush your teeth? Do you have one or two products that are essentials that you can make part of your daily routine?
Find what works for you
You might have your favorite ‘skin-fluencer’ whose routine you aspire to, but every skin type is unique. Not only should you consider your skin type and tone, but life stages like the menopause, stress levels, having acne-prone skin and reactions to different seasons will impact what your skin needs to feel nourished. But don’t worry, you don’t need to do hours of research, we’ve got you covered! Our friends over at Beauty Pie have come up with a skincare quiz so you can figure out what products will work magic on your skin.
AllBright member and personal empowerment coach, Chris Melville, is proof that finding what works for you can be transformational! She shared “I've used Beauty Pie for years now. My winter go-to is Plantastic™ Deep Nourishing Moisture Balm ($16 for members), it totally saves my skin this time of year. I love the Plantastic™Apricot Butter Cleansing Balm ($29 for members) as well. My other never-withouts are their Super Healthy Hair™ Moisturizing Shampoo ($11 for members) and Super Healthy Hair™ Moisturizing Conditioner+ ($11 for members) because they make it look like I've had a professional blow dry.” Chris shares that when she started using the Plantastic moisturizer and cleansing balm a couple of years ago her skin was dry, tight and flaky over the winter, and these products made it feel better from the first use. She also adds “The smell [is] delicious and [the products] plump up my skin.”
Discover the 5 minute facial
When your diary is jam packed, five minutes is all we can spare and that’s where Beauty Pie’s Fruitizyme 5-Minute Miracle Facial Peel ($25 for members) comes into play. It’s a favorite of another AllBright member who says that “the Fruitizyme does exactly what it says. If my skin is a bit congested and needs some exfoliation it does the job! [The product] leaves my skin feeling smooth, soft and clearer afterwards. It’s now part of my weekly routine. A lovely mini facial.” Now that’s a treatment we can get on board with!
Prioritize sleep
In order to have radiant skin, a great foundation is to get a good night’s sleep, with studies showing that when we sleep our collagen repairs itself and insufficient sleep leads to a lack of skin hydration. However, for many busy women getting enough hours of sleep can feel elusive. Interestingly, one way to help us wind down at the end of each day is to indulge in some form of self care, which skincare can be a part of. Not sure where to start? Try to set aside 20 to 30 minutes before bed to carry out your skincare routine, followed by a few minutes of journaling or reading in bed.
It can be as easy as ABC
Once again, Beauty Pie has created an easy way to help us take care of our skin, a kit that has been labeled ‘the backbone of your skincare routine’. The ABC+SPF system ($79 for members) was created by the world-renowned consultant dermatologist, Dr. Andrew Markey who recommends daily use of 3 ‘master molecules’: A (Retinol), B (Niacinamide) and C (Vitamin C), plus SPF. With everything you need in one handy kit, it cuts out all the fuss of having to track down the right products.
The four products you can find in the kit each work on different elements, so you’ll find Superdrops™ Brightening Niacinamide that will strengthen the skin’s barrier, Superactive Capsules Pure Double Vitamin C & Vitamin E Serum to boost your skin's radiance (and put a spring in your step!), the Traceless UVA/UVB SPF 30 Mineral Sunscreen + Primer that can be applied in the morning to shield the skin from environmental stress and also the Super Retinol (+Vitamin C) Night Renewal Moisturizer that can be incorporated into your bedtime routine to help delay the signs of premature aging. The idea is to use your cleanser, your moisturizer and serums alongside this kit so you can still have a tailored routine.
