From the clean girl aesthetic to Beaut-AI, it seems that just as soon as one beauty trend or buzzword comes along, there’s another lined up to replace it. Yet, there is something to say for the beauty advice that stands the test of time. We spoke to five women, who span different phases of their lives and careers, to ask how they embrace their individuality and define beauty on their own terms.
Anjali, 22, on using SPF every day
In a world where it can feel like you’re never keeping up and there’s always a new ‘miracle’ product on the shelf, Anjali, a Biochemistry Graduate Student at University of California, ignores the trends and instead commits to wearing sunscreen every single day. “I think skincare is one of the most important steps in your beauty regime, because when you are treating your skin with the care it deserves, it will not only look healthy, but it will be healthy. One of the best ways to keep it at its healthiest is to protect it from any potential damaging agents.” Her go-to SPF is the Beauty Pie Featherlight UVA/UVB SPF 50 Sunscreen + Primer because it doesn't mean adding another step into her morning routine, as her skin is already primed for any makeup she needs to apply for the day ahead!
Laura, 31, on finding a routine that works for you
The one piece of beauty advice Laura, CRM and Data Insights Manager, holds above all else is to find a skincare routine that not only works for you, but also brings you joy. She explains: “It was only as I got older and really started to invest in my skincare products that I found true enjoyment in my skincare routine. After signing up to Beauty Pie around 3 years ago and discovering premium products at prices I could actually afford, I found myself counting down the hours until I was reunited with my skincare both morning and night. [I love] testing new products and making it into a real moment in my day by lighting a candle, putting on my favorite music, listening to my skin and what it needs rather than opting for the ‘wash and go’ mentality that I had had in my younger years.”
Abiola, 44, on hyaluronic acid
Abiola, or Abi as she is known by those closest to her, works in the fashion industry “so looking good and feeling confident at work always [feels] amazing.” Abi’s biggest piece of advice to achieve that level of confidence? “Keep it simple.” Since she deals with a lot of discoloration around her chin and neck, she centers her skincare routine around hyaluronic acid products. As well as delivering a hydration hit for skin, which prevents signs of aging, research also shows that this ingredient can help to reduce the appearance of pigmentation. If you want to find out more about hyaluronic acid, explore Beauty’s Pie’s range of products that incorporate this active ingredient into their serums, creams, capsules and sheet masks.
Charlotte, 54, on incorporating a self love mindset
World renowned hair stylist Charlotte recalls how her mother always had “incredible glowing skin and gorgeous features, but it was her warmth and kindness that made her even more beautiful.” This lesson has stayed with Charlotte throughout her life. “Self-love isn't limited to what you think about yourself but also how you treat yourself What you eat, what you read, and how you carry yourself,” she says. “My beauty comes in confidence and feeling good about myself. By investing in my self-development, I feel empowered to bestow my beauty. It's never been about shape, size or hairstyle, it's simply how you invest in yourself and the reward you sow by loving yourself.” Just as this advice was passed down to her, Charlotte shares this mindset with her daughter, too.
Balbir, 63, on a more holistic approach
Balbir, a therapist, has been on a long journey with her beauty routine over the years. When she was younger her biggest issue was acne-prone skin and she spent a lot of time adapting to her skin’s needs. However, as she’s gotten older and gone through the menopause, her skin concerns have shifted. Beauty Pie knows that going through the menopause can have a knock-on effect on your complexion, and they’ve put together this handy guide for how to look after your skin during this period of change.
Balbir’s number one piece of advice is to consider the bigger picture. “As I get older, my approach to beauty is more holistic. Yes, I do spend time finding products that fit around my life, such as a hydrating mask that I can make time for in my busy work schedule, but I also know now that the secret to looking my best comes from many different things [such as] getting good sleep, eating well and managing my stress levels. When all these things are in alignment, my skin naturally looks more glowy!”
