While the rest of the world begins to open back up, here in Australia many of us are experiencing Groundhog Day...again.
It’s lockdown number we-don’t-even-know-anymore in Sydney and in Brisbane at the time of writing, with Melbourne in and out of lockdown more than anywhere else in the country. And while it’s friends and family we’re missing the most (ok fine, and school, and bars), there are some creature comforts that can help to take the edge off. And they deliver.
Here’s our pick of the best things you can order in lockdown.
Pepe Saya's lemon curd breakfast box
1. Treats
For those of us who split our WFH days by mealtime, there has never been a better time to treat yourself. Breakfast of champions? The Pepe Saya Lemon Curd Breakfast Box is delivered Australia wide - including 6 small batch fermented crumpets accompanied by creme fraiche and lemon curd, and of course the world’s most delicious butter.
Doughnuts are having a moment, and it’s a gluten-free moment. If you’re in NSW you can place an order for Nutie’s range of mouth-watering treats, including their famous GF doughnuts, or in Brisbane head to Nodo for their take.
Looking for something fancy? The Grounds have classic high tea packs for pickup or delivery, as well as DIY S’mores, cookies, and hot chocolate packs.
Silkiere candles
2. Candles
Want to know how to instantly transform your workspace (ahem, dining table)? A simple candle is an ambience heavy-hitter and brings a touch of luxury to a not-at-all-luxurious situation. Cleanse & Co double as decor with their crystal-topped candles. Speaking of decor, you might not even want to burn your Silkiere candle - they’re works of art.
3. Activewear
With daily exercise currently our one outing, it would be rude not to invest in some new kit. Our pick? That would be girlfriend’s super cute, super ethical, super inclusive line of activewear that feels as good to wear as it does to support. Made of discarded water bottles and fishing nets, and offered in a range of sizes from XXS - 6XL, there’s no buyer’s remorse with this one.
Plant Dyed
4. Loungewear
After you’ve spiked your heartrate, you’ll want to change into the WFH uniform of choice: loungewear. With just about every fashion label releasing a loungewear line in 2020 you’re spoiled for choice, but Plant Dyed has stepped it up a notch. With pigments sourced from Turmeric, Indigo flowers, Eucalyptus leaves and more, the brand is GOTS certified and gorgeous.
5. Books
Lockdown baking is so 2020. In 2021 we’re getting our sourdough delivered (it’s supporting local business, not laziness, ok?) and reading instead. Bridie Jabour’s Trivial Grievances is laugh-out-loud funny, dry, and compelling, and will make you feel less alone about the Millennial malaise. If you need a big cathartic cry, Meg Mason’s Sorrow and Bliss delivers and then some. And if you want to pretend the last 18 months never happened, Dolly Alderton’s Ghosts is like slipping into a warm bath - familiar, comfy, and you’ve already been told about it a million times.
6. Meals
And we’re back to food again. That’s how this lockdown thing works. Much to the delight of Sydneysiders, Providoor Sydney has now launched, bringing the likes of Neil Perry’s Rockpool, Greek favourite The Apollo, and Spice Temple to your door. Choose select dishes or a banquet and simply heat it at home. Brisbane, Providoor is on the way to you - but in the meantime, your famed Lasagne drive through (with wine, of course) is operating. Pre-order to avoid disappointment.
