I’m Gulnaz, founder of Legal & Governance Hub? I left the world of banking in March 2020 where I worked as in-house counsel and company secretary for over 8 years and I haven’t looked back since! I started my business during the pandemic and have thoroughly loved the process of creating and collaborating with extraordinary entrepreneurs. I’ve definitely got the entrepreneurial bug and can’t wait to see what 2021 has in store!
I’m tenacious and focused and when I want to achieve something there are absolutely no limits?
Tell us a little about what you do / what is your passion?
On a professional level I provide legal, governance and compliance services to tech Startups and SMEs. Alongside my business I host my own podcast show in which I share my knowledge, experience of running a business as well as speaking to some truly inspiring people. I never realised this before, but I’m actually more creative than I give myself credit for. I worked with a fantastic web develop and we built the website and designed the artwork for social media together. This has been one of my favourite parts of running the business.
I’m passionate about wellbeing in the workplace as sometimes the legal analytical mind can take over forgetting we are all human beings requiring rest and quiet time. I work with businesses on all levels, legal, HR and the boardroom as I believe all three are key ingredients to the success of any business; tone from the top and culture work hand in hand.
My career with the boardroom was by chance; an ex-manager commented I would make a fantastic company secretary and gave me a chance to try it out. I explored it, sat exams 8 years into my already established legal career and qualified? I have to admit, it was daunting being the only Asian female in the boardroom, but it has undoubtedly been the highlight of my career. There is just so much to learn about business in the boardroom and I have to say this actually inspired me to set up my own.
What’s your main goal right now?
My main goal is to drive my business forward and continue to have fun on this entrepreneurial journey. Self-employment provides you with the freedom to choose who you network with, who you choose to do business with and who you ultimately work with. You are in the driving force of your own career, not anyone else and this alone for me is true freedom. Wellbeing and health is also a top priority for me; as they say health is wealth.
What is the best advice you've ever received?
A few years back, someone once said to me ‘I was standing in my own way.’ When he explained what he meant it was a lightbulb moment for me. True success comes from allowing yourself to believe you are capable and worthy. Whenever self-doubt creeps in, I always mentally tell myself to ‘get out of my own way’ and it usually does the trick?

My Yoga mat – I love meditation and yoga and practice 20 minutes of this every day without fail. It helps me to feel calm and focused and ultimately feel good about myself. It’s also a great stretch after working on the Mac for most of the day.
Travel – Like so many people I haven’t travelled since February 2020 and my heart is craving the hustle and bustle of a new city, heat and exploring new cultures. I’ll be planning a number of trips for 2022 with the added advantage of being able to work from anywhere in the world, laptop in tow?
Ibiza – I plan yearly trips for yoga retreats and it feels like my second home. It gives me so much peace and happiness. Post-Covid, it will be another to add on my list?
Sitting in my local independent coffee shop on a Saturday morning ordering pancakes and a latte? I have missed the vibe, local people and excitement of this during lockdown although we’ve been lucky enough to get takeaway on a few occasions!
Dr Dre beats – I love music so much and cannot live without my beats. Whilst working, travelling or even hoovering I just need to listen to it?
My beautiful garden and al fresco dining in the Summer is the best – lots of lovely memories?
And last but not least, my amazing family. As the youngest sibling, I have definitely been loved a bit more extra than the rest?
What you’d like from the AllBright Sisterhood?
I’m recently a new member of AllBright and I have been truly inspired by the amazing female entrepreneurs on the platform. I just can’t wait to network in person post-Covid? It is so much more than a business networking platform; the events and talks are much needed when you need to switch off from a busy day and give time for your wellbeing and health. The events range from self-development, coaching, cooking tips to PR tools. For me work life balance is incredibly important and the Sisterhood offers this in abundance.
