The waterways of London are great places for activity, relaxation and getting in touch with nature. However, in places they are blighted by litter and in particular plastic waste. This is part of a worldwide problem. Much of the litter ends up in the open ocean, it is ingested by fish and marine mammals, and enters the food chain.
Plastic pollution is a growing problem around the world, and right here in London. Members are invited to join us on our first paddle & pick to create a cleaner, healthier environment to benefit all of us. Participants will get a lesson on paddleboards and canoes and then we’ll be off clearing a section of canal of plastic waste.
This will be a fun, energetic, informative morning helping reduce plastic in our waterways. Members will learn the basics of stand-up paddling along with litter picking in the canal. We will clear the Little Venice area and Paddington Basin of any plastic pollution. Are you on board?
The morning will begin at 8:30am at Kupp coffee. Paddle boarding begins at 9am and two hours will be spent on the boards picking litter. Please wear clothes you don’t mind picking litter in and bring a change of clothes (just in case you fall off the board). Preferably wear sportswear and bring a towel along.
There won’t be shower facilities at Paddington Basin, please bare this in mind. Showers at The AllBright can be used if you wish.
Paddle boards and litter pickers will be provided.
