HOLLY ARNOLD – Talent Agent and Founder of Project Taste
What do you do? and how did you get into it?
I’m a talent agent managing chefs, restaurateurs & food writers including Dan Doherty, Rosie Birkett & Carl Clarke. At Project Taste (my business), we do PR & Marketing for restaurants + food & drinks brands, as well as food & drink based experiential events.
I’ve worked in food for as long as I can remember – my family had a catering company & I used to work there at the weekends when I was a teenager. From there, I’ve always worked in hospitality & food (despite doing a politics degree!), from managing British producers at the BBC Good Food Shows to heading up sales & events at Smith’s of Smithfield with John Torode. I started out on my own about 6 years ago, and haven’t looked back.
Did you face any difficulties entering the field that you’re in? if so how did you overcome them?
Having a breadth of experience and contacts really helped me overcome the scariness of starting my own business. Tech and managing my time were all things that I had to get to grips with quickly… .and still am.
Any practical tips or advice?
Get a good accountant who really understands your business – it’s invaluable.
Any book or podcast recommendations?
I loved Serial, and can’t wait to get started with the new series. For food stuff, I also really rate Cherrybomb.
