Suswati Basu

Senior Intelligence Expert, Dataminr

My name is Suswati (pronounced Sha-shu-thi), and I'm a multilingual disabled journalist and podcast host working in the tech industry. I work for a top AI company called Dataminr, where we detect the earliest signals of high-impact events and emerging risks from within publicly available data. However, I'm deeply passionate about mental and physical health, hence I run a podcast and several community discussions on Twitter Spaces and Clubhouse to talk about these important topics weekly.

A Fact About You I used to play guitar in a Cuban big band and we toured around all the Salsa joints! I also speak Mandarin and lived in China for many years.

Tell us a little about what you do / what is your passion? I work for a top AI company called Dataminr, where we detect the earliest signals of high-impact events and emerging risks from within publicly available data. However, I'm deeply passionate about mental and physical health,  hence I run a podcast and several community discussions on Twitter Spaces and Clubhouse to talk about these important topics weekly.

What’s your main goal right now? My main goal now is to find a good long-term work-life balance in order for me to continue on my path of self-discovery and remain healthy at the same time.

What is the best advice you've ever received? "Grant me the strength to accept the things I cannot change, the courage to accept the things I can, and the wisdom to know the difference." Radical acceptance is the best advice I've ever been given.

Share your Sisterhood Six Six items that are key to my introverted wellbeing are slightly strange but here we go:

1. Fidget cube stops me from going towards my phone!

2. Guitar because it has been with me for 27 years and I consider it my baby

3. Chocolate, just because

4. Does a lifetime supply of books count as one?

5. Sketchbook (with pen)

6. Journal

What would you like from the AllBright Sisterhood? I am so excited to be part of the AllBright sisterhood, and I can't wait to meet lots of others looking for support, interested in mental health, and to be part of a community of like-minded people. As a former ITV and Channel 4 News journalist, connecting with others feels like my sustenance.
